Wild horses to be rounded up in Walla Walla district
Albert Baker, forest ranger for the Umatilla National Forest, said the first spring roundup of wild horses in the Walla Walla district would occur late April or early May. Domesticated horses roam the hills and ate scarce forage, prompting the roundup to reduce their numbers. Owners will be notified to claim horses, others will be sold to Echo packing plant and slaughtered. Meat shipped to France and Russia, dog meat sold domestically, and fishery uses noted.
