A Shell Oil crew works this week on a new distributing station in Athena located on a spur of the Northern Pacific Y track near the Union Oil plant. Lost Boy Scout Harold Johnson Returns From Mount San Jacinto Ordeal
Harold Johnson a 12 year old Corona California Boy Scout spent four days lost on Mount San Jacinto before finding his way to the Snow Creek canyon fish hatchery. He survived without food slept under a blanket and two sweaters and avoided injury by carefully descending the mountain while searchers looked on. He signaled rescuers with his blanket when planes passed overhead and credited his calm with keeping him safe.

Marion Jack Dies of Heart Failure at Mountain Camp
Marion Jack longtime Pendleton resident and Athena native died suddenly of heart failure while chopping wood at his mountain cabin south of Pilot Rock. He was with friend Col J H Raley when he slumped and expired. Born January 28, 1870 in Brownsville, he moved to Pendleton in 1912 and left eight daughters plus a widow. Surviving siblings and relatives include H F Jack of Delia Alberta and J C Jack of Portland.

Pendleton Hosts Second Annual Outboard Regatta
About 2000 spectators attended the Pendleton Post American Legion event over two days at McKay dam. Thrills came from the Marathon race with six boats, five capsizing, plus surfboard jumps by Axel Englund of Astoria. Digging Well At Natatorium For Legion Park Water

Pendleton Indian Fisherman Delivers Record Sturgeon
Andrew J. Barnhart of Umatilla spends spring and summer fishing at Celilo Falls and along the Columbia River delivering over a ton of sturgeon to a Portland company representative in The Dalles. The largest fish weighed just under a quarter of a ton. Barnhart, a leader of the Pendleton Indians, notes this year’s catch is better than average.
