Doodles of Bingles End Mil to MilGame Series

The final Athena Milton series game ended with Athena Millers sweeping the season in a high scoring bingle fest at Milton Freewater Cobblestones Park. Swede Hansen started for the Bull Dogs, later relieved by Whitie McBride as Batting averages soared with multiple two base hits and homers. A Weston scorekeeper failed to file a box score, leaving the score at 9 to 6 in favor of Athena, with hopes of a third win as Jack Keefe brings Weston band to town.

Double Tragedy in Milton Conductor and Wife Die

Mrs Fred Kyle formerly of Weston killed conductor Joseph Harper on the Walls Walla interurban at Milton then shot herself. Harper died later in hospital. Kyle and Harper’s histories show marriages and separations. motive remains mystery as family ties are traced to Oregon and Washington.

Senate Amendment Sparks Debate Over Direct Elections

Appointments Made to County Educational Board and Rural District Plan

The County Educational Board met in the courthouse to organize under the new school law with Waljes iy as ex-officio chair and J B Saylor as secretary. Members include Manuel Filehly Thomas Jacques and Col H G Newport. They adopted a three district rural supervision plan, with eightythree miles of travel for the superintendent and about forty to thirty-two schools in southern and northern districts, noting the experiment may evolve but should run two years. Also announced are two appointments Albert E White and George Tonkin to supervise northern and southern districts, with time needed to become acquainted with teachers meanwhile. The report discusses travel estimates and implementation challenges. Also news of a horse show and festival on July 1 at Westie, and a Dreamland program listing several films for Friday and Saturday.

Victim of Electrical Storm Across Umatilla County

A severe Monday night storm caused damage across the county after a day of heat. Lightning killed Henry Picard near the agency while his son survived with minor injuries as a tent was struck by a grounded iron rod. The storm also struck Walla Walla and caused a fatal shock to 13-year-old William Warren. Wheat fields were battered, cloud borates reported, and damage varied by location.
