Splendid Time at Farmers' Picnic in Athena

The fourth annual Farmers' Picnic drew a large Athena crowd at City Park on Saturday forenoon. A 70-automobile parade led by a band rode Main to Third, then to the park. Speakers including B. H. Norris LaGrande C. W. Nelson Seattle O. P. Strain Pendleton and A. R. Shamway Milton spoke on farm progress. The Holdman Ladies' Quartette and Athena Band provided entertainment during a full day of picnicking and programs.

GOLE BROS CIRCUS COMING TO ATHENA TIDE

The Cole Brothers United Shows promise a major circus visit to Athena on Wednesday June 12 with expanded acts and new railroad cars. The feature acts include a vast animal collection with a unique yellow Monohatus and a large tented arena with rings and a modern hippodrome. Also noted is a Wal la Walla race meet on June 11 at the Fair grounds with 25 cent admission and three pace and trot events.

Ajax Auto Traction Engine Demonstration at Weaton Picnic

A gasoline or distillate Ajax traction engine, capable of 40 horsepower, demonstrated by B L Berkey at the Clark place south of town during the Weaton picnic. The engine pulls six 14 inch plows at about two acres per hour, proving powered soil work in the wheat region of Umatilla county. Berkey, sales manager, aims to show its cost efficiency over current methods. Nearby notes report Joe Goker and Maude Barro traveling from Virgin Gold on Canyon Mountain, Maude collecting a copy of the Blue Mountain Eagle, and a berries reminder two miles north of Geer Springs.
