Oregon Senator Fulton Faces Scrutiny In West Tour
Washington dispatch reports Scott Smith travels from Arizona to Oregon amid a search into Senator Fulton’s record. Senator Fulton dismisses La Follette’s criticism as idle talk while asserting Hitchcock’s inquiries and a broad probe into rail rates and related political tensions. A separate note mentions a pending decision on a customs post and local postmaster appointments amid broader state politics and a Lebanon mill fire loss of $16 000.

Clover Seed Industry Grows in Linn County and Local Fire Loss
Linn County farms have seeded more than 1000 acres with clover, turning it into a thriving industry. Red clover hay yields two to two and a half tons per acre, seed crops yield four to six bushels per acre, with prices from seven to eight dollars per ton for bale and about six per bushel. Alsike clover yields eight to ten bushels per acre first crop, second crop for pasture. seed sells seven fifty to ten dollars per bushel, giving sixty to one hundred dollars per acre first crop, plus months of pasture from the second crop. A barn fire at Echo destroyed Richard Jones's livery with six work horses, harness, grain, and buggies, valued at five thousand dollars with eighteen hundred dollars insurance.
