A French Calendar And Its Revolutionary Names
The National Convention adopted a calendar of twelve months named for natural traits rather than gods. Months like Fructidor and Germinal described frosty and budding periods, while Thermidor covered part of July. The revolution of Thermidor on July 27, 1794 marked the end of Robespierre’s reign and gave the Thermidorians their nickname.
