Destructive Fire Destroys Burke Barns and Team

A Tuesday night blaze destroyed two barns owned by J. G. Burke and D. C. Melntyre on the West side. The fire, of unknown origin, engulfed the structures and cremated Burke and Son’s transfer team. The loss totaled the barns and wagon. two horses perished. Neighbors aided with water as Athena Fire Department fought the flames. A relief fund of 225 dollars was raised to buy a replacement team for Burke.

Swaggart Farm Home Destroyed By Fire

Fire destroyed A. L. Swaggart’s farm home north of town yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Swaggart alone at the house notified neighbors by phone. Neighbors moved household goods to safety while the upper north end of the house burned. The wind favored the home. water tower and smokehouse contents were saved. Insurance on the house and contents was $2500.

Norris buys McElroy lots for residence expansion

Mr. Norris purchased four adjacent McElroy lots joining his residence and began improvements. Several large poplars were removed, a small barn was relocated to serve as a hen house, and the land will be sown to alfalfa for pasture for Norris' Olly, Kellerstrass Crystal White Orping, and Rhode Island fowls.
