Floods Doom Local Trout Runs Reducing Angling Returns

A fisherman narrates the impact of May 1906 floods on Umatilla and Walla Walla rivers. Spawning grounds suffered, leaving only a few tiny trout along edges. Government hatcheries must restock. 18,000 trout were released in the county this season, with 9,000 intended for Meacham Creek.

Inland Grain Growers Association sacks buy in Pendleton area

The Inland Grain Growers Association led by C A Barrett of Pendleton reports 87,300 sacks purchased this season from dealers, with 70,000 sacks for Morrow and Umatilla counties. The scheme aims to lower costs for members and could push higher prices for grain, with detailed sack distributions to dozens of farmers and local towns.

New Gasoline Cars Highlight Rail Westward Service

The Oregon East region reports rapid progress on 24 new steel motor cars built at Omaha shops. Twelve will head west to relieve heavy local travel on through routes via Union Pacific Oregon Short Line and O R N, with the rest in Nebraska and Kansas districts. Cars boast 60 mph speed, 200 hp engines, all steel construction, heated by cylinder jackets, acetylene lighting, hot-water cleaning floors, roof ventilation, and reduced vibration for economy. Also notes Zeph Lockwood and Edythe McBride wed in Pearleton, with plans for Portland and Ashland home. Death of Mrs J H McBroom Pioneer of Umatilla County

Mrs Emily Crawford McBroom died in Pendleton at 63 after heart disease. Born in Shelby County Missouri she married Jacob H. McBroom in 1861 and crossed the plains with 44 wagons in 1882 settling in Pendleton then Weston. Survived by 12 children and several living in Oregon and Arizona. funeral held Tuesday. Obituary lists children and current residences. Also brief note on Pasco fire destroying several business blocks and a mention of local shorthorn cattle shipped from Morrow County.

Swift Packing Company to Run Hunt Farm with 3600 Acres

Swift Packing company takes control of the G. W. Hunt place, a 3600 acre Umatilla river ranch near Kobo. The operation will use bran and middlings from Heuristia Flouring mills to fatten hogs on over 200 acres of alfalfa. The Belu lr tigation district water rights are noted among Oregon's largest. Walla Walla City voters favored John Stack over Louis Kan. Kellough won mayorship with 4085 votes and Van Patten 547. White elected First Ward councilman with 152 votes.

Horse Dies During Music Lesson in Weston Gate Visit

Miss Richmond of Weston drove to take a music lesson with Prof. Henry. While the horse tied at the gate died suddenly after a peculiar sound in its harness. The horse, described as old and trained, was about 223 years old. Parents arrived after being notified.

Legal Action Looms Over Oregon Railroad Grain Delays

From Multnomah County court records a large term will focus on a suit against the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Co over grain shipment failures in 1904 06. Interior Warehouse Co seeks about 96000 in damages, Kerr Gifford & Co claim 40000, with plaintiffs alleging promised abundant freight facilities failed causing price declines and delays. The Umatilla County Growers Association has begun steps to seek lower freight rates and asks for a state railroad commission hearing via attorney Stephen A. Lowell of Pendleton.

George Adem McKay creek sherpan hurt in wagon crash

In Pridivien on Monday evening George Adem McKay Creek Sherpan was seriously injured after being thrown from a wagon onto pavement. He was taken to hospital with a skull fracture, while a bystander was also thrown from the vehicle but escaped with minor injuries.
