Train Held Up in Idaho. Bandits Shot by Deputy Sheriff

A late night train hold up on the Oregon Washington line near Kamela and Menoham ended with Deputy Sheriff McDuffee mortally wounding bandit leader Hugh Whitney during a gunfight before a guard and crew. The robbers rifled the express car strong box of more than 500 dollars, while two accomplices fled into the hills. The dead bandit was later misidentified, and Whitney was confirmed by Pendleton residents. The incident triggered broad searches by two contingents toward Starkey Prairie and toward the Baker County area, with reports of a brown automobile and fleeing trio. In other briefs, Floyd Pinkerton married Venus Huntton in Idaho and friends attended the ceremony.
