Indian suicide shocks Umatilla reserve man dies at home
Anthony Lumpkin, 45, a well known Umatilla Indian, shot himself with a 30-30 rifle at his home near the agency school. He had fought liquor cravings but became despondent and vowed to kill himself days before. His wife and three children were asleep as the tragedy occurred around 7:30. Lumpkin, son of a Yom Lumpkin, had taken the name of his stepfather and is said to be the third Indian to take poison from drinkrelated distress within a year.
