Hog Contest in Union County Chooses Bigger Hog
Hon J W McAlister and J W Spencer weighed two hogs at Ta Grado on Bock and Thomas scales. Spencer’s hog reached 870 pounds, McAlister’s 750 pounds, leaving Spencer the winner. McAlister claimed ownership of the largest hog by buying Spencer’s at 41½ cents a pound for 82.45 dollars.

Mrs Krebs Dies at Adams After Illness
Mrs Hattie Krebs formerly Hattie Bylands died at her home near Adams on Monday morning after nearly two years of illness. She leaves two children Ruth and Frank, a brother Frank Byland and several sisters including Mrs Fred Denis. Funeral was held Tuesday at 10 with Rev G W Rigby. interment at Weston. An earlier item notes a jail inmate, an insane Indian named Too -leet-la, moved to the asylum by Sheriff Taylor.

Grandmother Banks Dies After Long Life in Umatilla County
Grandma Banks died at her daughter Mrs. N C Dickensons home in Athena following a paralytic stroke. She was born Martha J Sherrod May 21 1829 in Arkansas and married H Banks in 1851. The couple crossed to Southern Oregon and settled near Athena in 1874, mother of twelve with nine living. Funeral held at the new Methodist church with Rev. W E Armfield officiating. Interment in Athena cemetery.
