The O R and N Walla Walla Pend Meton special train arriving Athena at 8 40 am and 6 30 pm will be annulled Sunday and removed from service indefinitely. The service started last September to aid wheat hauling season and will end as mixed trains resume normal passenger runs. One crew and locomotive will operate the revised mixed train service.
Wednesday closure due to health authorities and school board doubts about safety for public gatherings. Two new local cases reported since Tuesday include a Kemp daughter and Glen Saling. In the country one case at Swaggart home and one in the Sheard family. quarantine ordered and mayor issues another proclamation.
Amid an epidemic of scarlet fever public health officials ban public gatherings and delay school opening until the city shows a clean bill of health. Mayor J. D. Plamondon declared these orders in January 1907.
In Pendleton circuit court Mrs. L. K. Kerbaugh sues P. Dodd the Pendleton Tribune and others asking for the appointment of a receiver to seize Tribune property and for a full accounting of the paper’s business. Mrs Kerbaugh claims ten Tribune shares at par value fifty dollars each. Current Tribune owners are not named in the suit.
Professor W D Lyman of Whitman College travels by commission to urge Spokane and the inland empire to open the Columbia and Snake rivers to navigation as a solution to high rates and railroad monopolies. He has toured southern and eastern Washington praising open river and trolley cooperation as faster relief than courts or commissions. A Washington special notes stock apportionments for the Blue Mountains forest reserve.

Frank Baker former chairman of the Oregon Republican state committee and for eight years state printer of Oregon died at his Portland home after weeks of illness from a large abscess in the ear. He was 62, had long been active in state politics and owned the printing plant used by the state printer. Baker moved from Grand Ronde valley to Portland with his family and helped publish the Rural Spirit. He first became state printer in 1886, serving two terms until 1894.
John Kemp of East Otsfield Maine touts Tauoklen's Aruba Salve with claims it cures chilblains fever sores and various skin ailments. Sold for 95 cents at McBride's drug store.
Torrents from melting snow and rain interrupt rail traffic across the region. The Walla Walla Pendiston special misses its scheduled run due to a washout east of Spofford station. OBR Ny line west of Hood River floods push the ticket office to halt sales beyond Hood River. Continuous rain and snow in the Cascady area raise water levels feeding the Columbia.
Hon OQ A Barrett releases correction about Umatilla delegation to the Oregon Legislature. After a conference the group agrees to support Davey for the speakership, though no pledges were formalized. Steen and Slusher were attempted to be contacted but not reached.
On New Year's night a large Weston crowd watched the Normal play O A C of Corvallis, with O A C winning 85 to 61. O A C has held state champions for two years and is touring Oregon Washington Idaho. Weston lineup included Langbridge Stricklin Castello Webster Still Potter and Sandford.
A West Virginia school superintendent says his daughter recovered from St Vitus Dance after trying Electric Bitters. He notes the remedy cured nervous complaints, debility, female weakness, poor blood and malaria. Sold by Wim, McBride, Palace drug store, price five hundred.
The firm of Cox and McEwen has dissolved and all indebted parties must settle accounts immediately. All balances due the firm must be paid in full by January 1.
