Death at 96 Swaggart pioneer of Umatilla County
Nelson Swaggart aged 96 a pioneer of 1863 and longtime Umatilla County resident died at his Pendleton home surrounded by his wife and eight children. Funeral was held from Baker Folsom's with interment at Olney cemetery. He was born January 16 1812 in Saint Clair County Illinois and married Addaline Harper in 1847. He helped found farms in Lane and Umatilla counties and supported emancipation and the Union during the Civil War. His eight living children include George W Swaggart W F Matlock and Rita Wheeler. His wife survives him in her 80s as Christmas observances approach in Athena.

The event featured a campfire style centerpiece with open air boating motifs and a realistic breakfast setup.
