Mailing Out Draft Questionnaires Begins in County

The mailing of draft questions to registrants starts tomorrow December 16th with 6 percent of blanks mailed daily until 2800 or more county registrants receive them. Registrants must answer within seven days after mailing and send to the Central Board in Pendleton. they are responsible for receipt and timely return. Attorneys offer free services on advisory boards to aid understanding and completion, with the Athena advisory board listing Homer I Watts and F S Row ready to advise.

Red Cross Crusade Kicks Off Monday in Athena

Athena residents to join National Red Cross membership drive led by Mrs. Mattie Hin and W B Glessar. A thorough canvass will cover Athena and surrounding areas with a one dollar membership creating service flags for display in homes and businesses. Fire Damage After Explosion In Room Causes Loss

A fire caused by an exploding can of varnish severely damaged a room at 10 30 today. The interior and contents were almost destroyed by flames and water. Jacob Boohar was cleaning and bringing a second can into the room when the first can exploded, heat from the boiler presumed. He was in the room only momentarily and escaped injury as water was applied, saving the building from total loss. Insurance covered some costs, and repair is possible.

Armenian Relief Committee Formed in Local Baptist Church

A church meeting organized a local Armenian and Assyrian relief effort. Rev Dane served as president, Rev W S Gleiser as secretary, and B B Richards as treasurer. A publicity committee and full committee were named with multiple residents and officials including Mayor H J Wath. Spokane speaker D H Bragg addressed citizens Wednesday evening.
