Profitable Deal in Foxes Aids Aleutian Stock Restocking
In 1921 the Bureau of Biological Survey noted inbreeding in Aleutian blue foxes and arranged to import Pribilot blood to boost stocks. Eight foxes sailed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Bear to St George and Unalaska areas, with transfers to Lavigne, Avatins land, Unalaska Brotherhood, and Kavalga lessees. Each animal cost 12 dollars, sale proceeds totaled US dollars, natives received five dollars per fox, and remaining funds went to the U S Treasury Fisheries Service Bulletin.
