Oliver Dickenson schedules major improvements at his place in Bate Town. He erects a large barn, four bedroom bungalow with living room kitchen, front porch and screened rear porch, full basement. Brick foundation and basement underway. Lumber supplied by Tuma Lum Lumber Co. and James Ashworth handles contract.
The Food Administration proposes to take control of the 1918 wheat harvests to curb speculation and set a minimum price of $3 per bushel. It will open government buying outlets at principal terminals, require warehouses to accept government wheat, and push for equitable flour pricing to support exports and domestic supply.
Sumpter faces total losses estimated between 700000 and 260000 with insurance covering over 90 percent. A town meeting is planned to decide if rebuilding will proceed as fifty burning hoses and forty five housing structures were destroyed. Water supply failure hindered firefighting while dynamite was used in wrecking efforts. one suspected arsonist remains at large though no confirmation.
Glazer M Wall, a well known young man of Athena, died Sunday morning at his mother's home after a tuberculosis illness. Born in Kingman Kansas August 4 1889 he was 27 years 11 months and 10 days old. Funeral services were held Monday at the Christian church. He left Athena three years ago for a railroad job and returned last fall in ill health. He is survived by a widowed mother and three brothers.
Jamen Campbell an elderly man employed on a farin a near Burdon boarding house was found dead in his bed Monday morning. Cause described as parnivale with a prior attack. Officer Dobson attempted to take him to the county hospital but found him dead in his room. The coroner was notified and the body sent to Pendleton for burial.

Henry Pinkerton died after a two year illness at his home in this city Tweeday aged 71 years ix months and a dive. Funeral services were held at the Christian church eaterday morning at 1 o'clock and burial followed at Keon cemetery. He was a pioneer of the county, homesteading near Weston in 1871 before moving to the Willamette Valley. He leaves a wife and three children Ern Pinkerton of Athena Charles of Weston and Ellin of Ashwood. The funeral was simple and the friends were many.
