Athena Celebrates 127th Anniversary Plans Draw Public Support

A mass meeting at Town Hall on April 11 chaired by Mayor Taylor organized Athena’s bid to celebrate the nation’s birth. Committees were formed with A M Gillis and A W Botkin among leaders, funding and parade plans discussed, aiming for a grand civic event with music, baseball, contests, and a Liberty Bell symbol, targeting a substantial fundraising total to ensure a memorable observance.

Ogle and Estes groves secured for rental and bids set

Four Club League Formed in Inland Empire

The Inland Empire Baseball League was organized in Walla Walla on Tuesday with Robert Burns as president. Delegates from Pendleton Dayton and Colfax set a 68 game schedule a $700 salary cap and a $200 forfeit plus $50 emergency fund per club. A 5 percent gross receipts tanking fund was adopted and meetings praised town interests as baseball of next year was discussed.

Building operations commence in Athena church site workers break ground

Ground for the basement of the new 87000 Methodist church in Athena was broken yesterday. The building will sit back from the street due to an error in the original plat. A cement sidewalk will extend across the lot. Wu Killgore begins a five room cottage on Qud street south of Main, third home planned in five years for rental. N A Miller will start excavating for a new Main street business building early next month. The Adams and Torhune residences near completion. Mayor Taylor engages railroad companies for coal and hose, as Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 reports hopeful city officials on forming Howe Co. No. 4. Debate centers on assigning men to operate equipment. action deferred until new hose company is organized. Mayor praises progress while seeking fire hove and hydrant placements across Athena including Main Street and Hunt avenue. Easter Sunday in Athlon features beautified churches and special music.
