Pioneer Frank Mansfeld 76 of Athena dies suddenly

Frank Mansfield a pioneer of the Northwest aged 76 died at his Athena Oregon home just after midnight Saturday after a brief heart attack. He born March 18 1835 in Galstaure Illinois crossed the plains with an ox team and served in Rogue River wars. Survived by wife Me a Livate White a son D A Mansfield Caldwell Idaho nine children and many friends. Funeral Monday at the Christian church Weston interment at Weston. He moved to Umatilla county in 1873 and lived on a west of town home later retiring to town. His twin J Mansfold died earlier. He was a devout Christian and respected neighbor.

Anglers Warned by Ranchers Near River Forks

Ranchers eight miles above the river forks have served notice that anglers on their premises will be prosecuted. A shift of snow Tuesday morning barely covered the ground. The temperature felt like winter for several hours but fruit was not damaged locally. Peach trees are in bloom and other fruits have swollen buds.
