Reporter Probes State Utility Rates In Topeka Study
Fred Kenner reports after a state corporation commission study in Topeka on city and state telephone and power charges. Atchison shows a $5 business phone rate, higher than nearby cities in some cases. Officials cite plant construction costs and rocky ground as reasons for higher local rates and say Kansas City Kansas faces similar pressures. The commission aims to adjust rates statewide and scrutinizes instrument rental charges. Tomorrow’s piece continues with further rate details.
