A Good Showing in Tax Receipts in Atchison County

From Wednesday's Daily July 13 90406671 had been collected at the office of county treasurer Ted Meyer from Atchison county taxpayers for the year, closing June 20. The sum represents 87.81 percent of the taxes and is 2.12 percent below last year at this date. The delinquent list is smaller than expected though the delinquency rate rose slightly. At this date last year 89.93 percent had been paid.

Retired Farmer Ends Own Life in Wetmore

J. M. Sigler, 76, a Wetmore retired farmer, was found dead in a barn after wounds from cutting his wrist and possible strangling attempt. Domestic trouble is blamed. He had lived in Wetmore 30 years, survived by his widow and two daughters. Other items note local illness, trials, and community notices.

Atchison County Enters Corn Yield Contest

Atchison county has 19 farmers competing in the Kansas Five-Acre Corn Yield contest. One hundred sixty seven entries have been received by the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce from Jefferson, Franklin, Allen, Atchison, Nemaha, Brown and Doniphan counties. The winner in each county and the state champion will be decided by both quality and yield. Each county winner receives a gold medal. the state champion gets a trophy. Members of the Hundred Bushel club form with crops of 100 bushels per acre. Entries from Atchison county include D. D. Alf Landon Welcomed in Atchison On Campaign Swing

Alf Landon of Independence tours Kansas in a primary drive, speaking in Doniphan Brown and Atchison counties. He drew about 1 500 at Muscotah and planned stops in Effingham Lancaster and Leavenworth, while stressing tax relief for agriculture and business and calling for militant and united Republicanism.
