Gary cites minority obstruction slowing postwar recovery
Elbert H Gary, chairman of United States Steel, told the American Iron and Steel Institute that progress will be slow until a minority of businessmen and workers abandon dishonest practices. He urged readjustments in costs of living and prices, noting wages should not fall before costs ease. Retail prices remain high and wage increases are unjustified if living costs stay elevated.
