Alvira Rathbun Huston recalls the 1840s log school in Lafayette Grove Ogle county Illinois. She describes the building with one north window a brick and stone hearth a south door and log plank desks. She notes homemade ink slates only Elementary Spelling Book and her teacher Miss Phidelia Clark. A granite marker was erected by Ogle county in 1909 and she visited in 1917.

Mrs. Forrest Paddock received a cloth fragment from an American downed aeroplane near her husband’s station in France, plus aluminum from the motor.
