At an adjourned city council meeting on Monday officials set October 6 for a water works election. The measure, supported by City Attorney Mark C Keller and engineer James H Thompson, calls for a plant costing about $18 000. The project requires a 75 percent vote within current tax limits. Ladies eligible to vote.

Dixon city attorney Mark C Keller was appointed Master in Chancery by Judge Richard Farrand to fill the Bardwell vacancy due to ill health. Keller, long respected as city attorney for Dixon and Ashton, will oversee legal work for local improvements and water works planning. Epworth League Rally set for Sunday September 6 urging members to join and greet the master.
John C. McKenzie announces candidacy for representative in Congress from the 18th district on the Republican ticket, subject to the primary on September 9. He seeks support in the upcoming election.

The Springfield resident J McCan Davis, famed for a strong Lincoln era campaign, seeks one of two Republican congressional nominations. A self made man and longtime public figure, he is described as a national level writer on Lincoln and a capable future member of Congress.
Evangelical Association members from Scarboro Reynolds and Ashton churches plan a Sunday school and Y P rally at Reynolds church on September 11 with Rev C S Burger as speaker. Sunday services listed for Reynolds and Ashton churches with times and locations. Also notes about the Ashton Rebekah lodge meeting next Wednesday and various local social items.
Public school opened in Ashton with 177 pupils enrolled so far and 21 tuition pupils in the high school. The junior class has 21 students, and next year is expected to bring a record attendance as graduates increase. Mrs. William Schade and Miss Gertrude Richardson visited Chicago last Thursday.
