Ashton residents have raised over 4000 dollars to fund a boulevard lighting system for 1.5 miles of paved streets. The plan includes underground wiring, ornamental one light posts, and completion ahead of spring paving with contracts let immediately to ensure material prices.
Marshall William B. Farrer stopped two alleged automobile thieves Saturday noon with advice from Dixon Chief Van Bibber. The men, described as college boys, had a 1918 auto license and claimed to have operated the car in Iowa all year. Farrer required them to apply for an Iowa auto license before release, citing lax Iowa action.
A petition is circulating among soldiers to form a local American Legion post. Ex soldiers have joined and expect a charter soon. The petition is at the Gazette office and interested soldiers may sign up.
A tuberculosis clinic will be held at the High School Auditorium next Wednesday afternoon October 29 with free exams by a Chicago specialist under the Lee County Tuberculosis Association. Census Enumerator tests for the 5th Illinois District occur Friday October 31 in Dixon at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the County Courthouse.

The Ashton Bank announces installation of a Burroughs Adding Machine to replace old ledgers and start a new method of keeping accounts. Customers are invited to visit any day to see the machine in operation and to open an account if desired.
The New Era circle holds its first meeting Wednesday afternoon October 29 at the Presbyterian church parlors. The program on India begins at 3 00 with hostesses listed including Mrs M N Glenn Mrs J D Charters Miss Amanda Messer and others.

In the week beginning October 26 the American Jewish Relief Committee will appeal nationwide to raise funds to save Jews in Poland Lithuania Galicia and Palestine. The Ashton township quota is 500 dollars with subscriptions collected at The Farmers State Bank or The Ashton Bank throughout the week.
The United Evangelical Church schedules October 26 services in Ashton with Bible school at 11:00 a.m. and preaching at 7:00 p.m. A K. L. C. and E. meeting led by Helen Mall and Frieda Schnell at 8:00 p.m. Bradford holds Bible school at 1:30 p.m. and preaching at 2:30 p.m. Offerings support China Missions. pastors and leaders report weekly.
Cyrus Milton Yorty a Lafayette township resident died last Thursday at his home three miles north of Ashton after a months long illness Brights disease. Born January 31 1847 in Myersdale Pennsylvania he was 72 years nine months and 16 days old. He leaves brothers Conrad and Peter both long-time residents with whom he shared life, one sister and other siblings having predeceased him. Funeral services were conducted from the home and Presbyterian church by Rev William H Manshardt with interment in Ashton cemetery.
Christian Endeavor holds a Sunday evening rally at 6:30 led by Miss Hobart with the theme Standing for God Right Rally. Attend and help ensure a successful meeting.
