Mrs. John Kersten Sr. dies at 81 in Ashton after long illness. Born Anna Christina Hildebrand in Germany, she emigrated in 1857 to Lea Center and lived in Bradford and Reynolds townships. Survived by 11 children, 26 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many relatives. Funeral conducted by Rev. G A Walter and Rev. J H Johnson, with interment in Ashton cemetery.

The Rock River conference closes its seventy third session with Rev Alfred E Simester returned to the Meth odist Episcopal church in Ashton for a second year. The past year saw 21 new members added and all departments in good order. Sunday school attendance rose from 102 to 120, and benevolences reached a record 524 dollars. The report notes strong finances and planned repairs for fall. The conference lists many church appointments and urges reform in marriage statutes.

Teachers Will Meet at Methodist Church Saturday
A teachers meeting will be held at the Methodist Episcopal church in this city on Saturday October 19. County Superintendent L W Miller has arranged an excellent program with morning and afternoon sessions. The program includes registration music by Ashton High School and talks on personality of the teacher and standard schools with round table discussions and vocational work in district 54. New York apples will be available around the 28th with delivery to town orders.

Nicholas Schuchart Dies After Illness in Gettysburg
Nicholas Schuchart a longtime Bradford township resident died last Thursday at his Gettysburg home after a brief illness. His funeral was held Monday in Amboy after services at the Catholic church. He was born January 17 1846 in Germany and came to the United States with his parents at age two. He married Augusta Timme forty four years ago and lived in Scranton Iowa Bradford township and Illinois before settling in Bradford township. Survived by six daughters one son two sisters and several grandchildren. The Schuchart family moved to the city from Bradford township twenty years ago and he built the opera house block in 1903.

Only immediate relatives attended, followed by a reception at the groom’s parents’ home six miles west. The couple will reside in Franklin Grove amid friends’ best wishes. Mrs Eri Bates Rites Held. Longtime Ashton Resident Dies
Mrs. Eri Bates, age 74, died Sunday at her son James Bates home in Plano after paralysis. Born June 28 1838 in New York, she married Eli Bates in 1857 and lived in Illinois towns Franklin Grove Ashton and DeKalb. Survived by three sons Winfield Austin James and two daughters and ten grandchildren. Interment in Ashton cemetery after short service at the Plano home and cemetery rites led by Rev Alfred Simester.
