Funeral Held For Ira R George In Ashton Church

Funeral services were held yesterday at 10 am from the deceased’s residence and 10:30 am at the Presbyterian Church. Ira R. George died Sunday at age 43 after a several weeks battle with typhoid fever. Burial followed in Ashton Cemetery. He leaves his wife Sarah Piper two daughters Myrtle Ada and son Warren, his father and sister Mrs Mary Weybright of Wichita Kansas. He had served as a weather observer for the Department of Agriculture since 1895 and was a farmer regarded as a straightforward man.

Wreck at Flagg Blocks Tracks on CNW Line

A small wreck on the Chicago and Northwestern at Flagg occurred late Sunday afternoon as an east bound freight backed to let passenger No. 28 pass. A draw bar fell to the tracks, knocking rails loose and causing both tracks to be blocked for several hours, delaying east and west bound fast trains.

Kitchen shower honors Miss Janet Griffith before wedding

Miss Janet Griffith celebrated a kitchen shower hosted by Miss Minnie Moon in Dixon with friends presenting utensils as gifts. Decor included a Japanese lantern, red heart motifs, and an umbrella frame lighting the room. Guests enjoyed ice cream cake and coffee, then departed around midnight with fortunes and cupid hearts read.

Preached Initial Sermon by New Ashton Pastor

Rev. Pred L. Baldwin, new Methodist Episcopal pastor, preached his first sermon to a crowded audience on Sunday evening titled The Transforming Power of the Grace of God. He outlined his aim to meet parishioners personally and will return later with his family. He left Chicago on Monday noon and plans interior repairs before settling. Mrs. Win will visit her sister in South Bend, Indiana, before joining him.

Dixon Union High School Destroyed by Basement Fire

A Monday morning blaze originated in the basement of the Dixon Union high school, a stone building valued near 50 000 dollars with 16 500 dollars insurance. About 300 students assembled for classes but escaped unharmed as fire stayed within the interior. textbooks were lost while wraps were saved. The school board planned temporary arrangements and a two day delay before resuming classes.

National Corn Exposition in Chicago Promises Grand Prizes

The National Corn Exposition invites visitors to Chicago for a grand agricultural display. Prizes total $100,000 with $30,000 spent on decorating the Coliseum and annex. Delegates from leading states attend the National Corn Congress and special prizes include land, implements, pianos, household goods, and a $1,000 prize for the top 50 corn cars.
