Ashton voters approve water works by 155 to ? with 341 total ballots. Women vote three to one. men vote near that pace. City council plans immediate work including tower and 50 000 gallon tank, two miles of six inch pipe, hydrants, pumping plant, and well drilling. Bids expected late this month as contractor crews lay mains.
The Northern Illinois Utilities Company closed its Franklin Grove office. Ashton bills are now paid at The Ashton Bank. Bills arrive the first days of the month and must be paid by the tenth to receive the discount. Complaints go to the Amboy office.
Mrs. W. C. Schafer visited Dixon Monday afternoon to visit friends. The Illinois Automobile Fire Insurance Exchange promotes auto insurance at actual cost with a Dixon office and advisory board led by O. H. Martin and others.
United States Senator Lawrence Y. Sherman campaigns for re election with Republican candidates touring Lee County. He will arrive Amboy at 9 30 AM and speak in Lee Center West Brooklyn Compton Paw Paw Lee Steward Ashton Franklin Grove Nachusa and Dixon with scheduled speeches throughout the day.
The Endeavorers will hold their annual rally Sunday October 11 at 6:30 pm. All members and friends are urged to attend. A special program is arranged with the topic Next steps for our society led by Miss Katherine Griffith.

George Schinzer advertises a carload of Minnesota Early Ohio potatoes arriving in Ashton in a few days. He offers winter supply at 75 cents per bushel. A local dealer advertises a carload of No 1 New York apples mostly winter varieties plus good eating apples. Quality and price guaranteed and orders invited by Bert Moore.
Mr and Mrs Henry C Schnell and daughter Dorothea arrived in Ashton after five months in Germany. They praised German courtesy but noted wartime disruption with mobilizations, cancelled steamers, and their Dutch-Holland voyage aboard the Noordam. They observed Antwerp fighting nearby and recalled wounded soldiers and troop movements.
Republican Fred G. Dimick files as the candidate for County Clerk of Lee County. He urges voters to support him in the November general election.
Republican Ren for office of Treasurer John E. Moyer asks supporters in Lee County Illinois to remember election day November 3 1914 and cast a ballot for him.
Rev Albert E Ulrich departed for Austin to attend the Rock River conference session through early next week. The local Methodist church reports a prosperous year with 82 new members raising membership from 180 to 206 and benevolence contributions near $700. Sunday school attendance grew from 146 to 467 weekly. The Fourth Quarterly Conference unanimously wishes the pastor to be returned for another year.

Mary Leahy aged near a century died September 26 at her Lafayette township home. Funeral Mass conducted at St Patrick church Rochelle with Rev Father Bourke officiating. She emigrated from Ireland in 1843 and lived in Rockford and Saratoga before settling in Lafayette township. Survived by husband David Leahy, three children, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
