Editor J A Nolen Shot By His Son
Editor Joseph A Nolen of the Shabbona Chief and Lee Standard was accidentally shot Monday afternoon by his eight year old son. The bullet struck him in the back of the neck and he was taken to Aurora hospital in critical condition. Nolen, about forty, had published the two papers for two years and was well known in DeKalb and Lee counties. The farm barn incident occurred while they were seeking business in Shabbona. The report also covers rural free delivery debates and star routes, urging farmers to oppose contracting and to push for continued rural routes through protests to Taft and Congress.

The United Evangelical church shows rapid progress as plastering finishes and cement steps are completed. Some steeple work remains. once walls are ready carpenters will finish. No dedication date set. basement cemented and congregation to meet there soon. Christian Endeavor meets Sunday at 5:45 led by Katherine Griffith on Forward steps in our society. August Sindlinger of Inglewood, California visited Dysart and DeKalb relatives, but fell ill briefly and plans to stay until November first.

Methodists Meet at Dixon for River Conference Session
The seventy first River Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church met in Dixon on Tuesday and will run seven more days. Bishop Earl Cranston of Washington D C presides over over 400 clergymen and 63000 members across six districts including Chicago North Chicago Southern Chicago Western Dixon Joliet and Rock. Today marks the Woman's Foreign Missionary society anniversary at 2 30 and the Freedmen Aid Society anniversary with Rev M B C Mason as speaker. Public activities follow with laymen Friday and Deacon association talks plus hospital and foreign mission events. A reception for ministers is planned Monday afternoon and J Frank, former Indiana governor, will lecture tonight. Appointments likely Tue noon or Wed morning.

Runaway Incident Injures Alderman L. T. Moore

Nelson appointed new city clerk at October meeting
At the October city council meeting Mayor Fred A. Richardson named Henry Nelson to fill the year end city clerk vacancy created by H O Moore’s resignation. The council confirmed the appointment. Bills for cement sidewalk and street work were allowed except F L Freeman’s $500 gas plant carburetor bill. Gas committee to decide. Police Magistrate Cassius K Northrup resigned and thanked the council for relief. Gas mains remnant work assigned to the Gas committee to connect dead ends. Meeting adjourned. Mrs A M Bates of DeKalb visited relatives Saturday.
