New Parcel Post Rules to Take Effect in 1913

Postmasters report the new parcel post, effective January 1 1913, with rates by distance across eight districts. Minimum 5 cents, maximum weight 11 pounds, four ounce parcels at old fourth class rate. Packages must bear clear sender address, be deposited at post office, and use special stamps. Express firms may be affected. a Christian Endeavor meeting led by Mrs. Griffith is announced for Sunday.

Rochelle Child Violet Krug Dies of Pneumonia

Violet C Krug six daughter of Mr and Mrs William Krug of Rochelle died Monday afternoon from pneumonia after an operation for tonsils in Chicago ten days earlier. She was born April 22 1906 in Rochelle and was six years six months 27 days old. Survived by parents sister and grandparents Mr and Mrs Martin Krug. Funeral held at Methodist Episcopal church Rochelle with Rev Albertus Perry officiating. Interment in Rochelle cemetery.

Double Track Peoria Branch to McCouin County

Chicago & Northwestern plans extend over 117 miles from Peoria to McCoupin county with a double track system to Sterling later. Construction ramps up with three shifts around the clock and Pekin river bridge piers ready for two tracks. Officials expect completion by August 1 and anticipate heavy winter coal traffic.

Property values rise as state board reports totals

State board of equalization announces taxable property assessed at 2,122,104,048 dollars, up 17,042,501 from last year. McLean leads counties with 37,797,434. Pike is lowest at 1,795,867. Sangamon and Peoria rank third and fourth. Modern Woodmen of America turns 30 on Jan 5, 1913, with Pioneer Camp No. 1 surviving since 1883. Beneficial membership reaches 1,035,029. society has paid 115,813,855.56 in benefits to 65,468 deceased members.

New Bank Planned in Amboy with 250 Shares

Rariden of Morrison Illinois assists Amboy during State Bank organization effort. Capital stock set at 250 shares of 100 dollars each, total 25 000 dollars. Bank to be housed in Badger building with vault under construction and expected to open within ten days. Aim to draw new business and ease bank competition by keeping peace between banks and attracting farmers from distant areas.

Station Agent Wm H Fee reports railroad officials will finish brick platforms in the city next year. Bricks shipped for east and north depots were of soft quality and sent away.
