A public meeting will be held at the high school auditorium at 7 30 Thursday evening to plan an I H agricultural short course and community meeting. A representative from International Harvester will explain a two day program for farm and town folk at very small cost with free speakers and illustrated charts. Paving Continues After Five Day Shutdown
Paving operations resumed yesterday morning after a five day halt due to material shortages and rain. Work progresses slowly along Evans avenue toward the Methodist church with ample material on hand. Weather will dictate future progress as contractors aim to finish near season end to remove equipment for winter. Otto Kaminky of Mendota now runs the mixer, promising faster, better work, having previously handled the mixer for Trumpeeters in Ashton last year.

The United States Department circular No 230 provides home tanning directions to help farmers when the margin between raw hide price and finished leather is large. Tanneries can produce leather more economically, but producers may tan hides themselves for certain needs, with small piece leather costing $1 to $1.50 per pound in some areas.

Why Not Tax Timber Proposed by Lowden
Former Governor Frank O. Lowden urged taxing timber sales from Illinois forestry lands rather than direct land taxes under a proposed constitution. Remains of Mrs Mary W Good May Be Interred Here
Former Ashton hotel owner’s wife Mrs Mary W Good died in Buffalo township near Polo at 60 years, 7 months, 18 days from apoplexy. Body brought from Sterling to Ashton for burial in the family plot. The Good family had recently moved from Ashton to Sterling. Their son Samuel Good was killed at the depot by a train in December 1908.
