A Noble Woman Passes After Long Illness
Miss Mary Charters of this city died Sunday morning after seven months illness. Born March 10 1832 in Johnstown Pennsylvania she lived with her mother after her father died. Survived by two sisters and a brother, funeral held Monday at home, burial beside her parents in Lisbon Ohio.

At the annual election of officers for the Methodist Choir on Thursday evening the church chose C. W. Pension Checks by Mail Proposed to Save Millions
Commissioner Davenport submitted a plan to pay pensions by direct mailed checks to the last address, eliminating vouchers and reducing costs. The proposed method could save about 1 million annually for pensioners and roughly 180 thousand for the government, with fewer fraud concerns after field checks and a reduced mail burden. It notes 570,050 soldiers and dependents on pension roles, 529,884 Civil War survivors, and the last Revolutionary War pensioner dying in 1911 at age 90. Also reports a schedule change for Rochelle & Southern Ry with a new northbound departure from Mendota at 4 58 p m for Rockford arrival 7 15 p m.

The Wright property transformer house is ready and wires are being strung on city streets. District Superintendent Claude S Moore convened the Ashton Methodist Episcopal church for the first quarterly conference since the Ashton and Franklin Grove charges were dissolved at the last annual meeting. The Ashton official board met for the first time since the union in 1884. Modern Woodmen of America reports show 109,248 new members and 700 new camps in nine months, totaling 15,180 camps and 1,217,000 members.
