Voters face eight candidates for five town offices as petitions close. Two ballot propositions question temperance status and the poll tax. Officials listed include Town Clerk Benj G Yenerich and others. terms shift to two years under a 1909 law.
Daily schedules offer low colonists rates to the Pacific Coast via the Chicago Union Pacific North Western Line. New fixtures installed at Ashton Post Office include 192 east side call boxes and 153 lock boxes on the wedge shaped layout. The Money Order window sits by the postmaster’s door. rural carrier window and improved delivery space expand access, at a cost near $500 with credit to Mills and Petrie for funding.
At St John’s Lutheran Church a confirming class of eight was held. The group includes three boys Oliver Vender Frank Schinzer and Fred Sachs and five girls Clara Meister Mabel Gleim Nelta Landau Ann Kate Schinzer and Clara Oester.

The Lee County list of Census Enumerators is complete as announced by Census Supervisor D. A. Callahan of Freeport. Commissions and supplies will be issued soon. Enumerators include Samuel J. Whetston Amboy township Henry J. Beitz Amboy City Virgil B. Andrus Ashton Faust H Boyd Frank S Hart and others across townships and wards.
Mail delivery resumed at 4 31 a m after Station Agent P J McMillan intervened with the superintendent. Will Bates becomes day operator. Reynolds church holds quarterly meeting Friday 7 30 pm with Rev J G Schwab presiding. Saturday service at 2 pm Sunday prayer and Sunday school 9 30 am communion 10 30 am. Sunday evening C E service 7 pm with music and sermon on Getting ready to live forever led by Nellie Griffith. Mrs Chas Reed and daughter Mrs Kook of Chicago visited Hurd home. About fifty members of Ashton Chapter No. 575 Order of Eastern Star gathered at George R. Charters home to mark the thirtieth wedding anniversary of the Charters couple. A two course supper followed a pleasant surprise event and a “royal good time” concluded the evening. The Seventeenth Annual Conference of the United Evanglical church ended in Barrington with Rev. Johnson assigned to the Davis church. Rev. Johnson will preach farewell sermons in German and English Sunday.
George R. Laird delivered the closing number of the M. W. A. entertainment course last Thursday evening at the opera house. His lecture titled Will Uncle Sam Make Good discussed the nation’s condition and praised work as a remedy to crime. TheModern Woodmen course drew a large audience and organizers plan another year, seeking stronger support for the talent displayed on stage.
Sublette leads in smallest delinquent list and has the most dogs, while Harmon has the least. Hamilton and East Grove report the largest delinquent lists. Ashton Alto Reynolds Bradford Totals show amounts to collect and delinquent figures with commissions for each township.
The body of Luther Baldwin laid in the receiving vault since last winter was interred yesterday in the family lot at the cemetery. The burial service was conducted by Shton Lodge No. 977 I. O. of which the deceased was a charter member. Local item mentions Dixon visitor Gus Heinzeroth. The text also notes salesmen worry in Lee and adjacent counties for the Victor Oil Co. Cleveland Ohio.
Henry Stephan Will Hart George Van Ness and E S Rose with two Dixon men hunted ducks at Hahnaman Thursday. They brought thirteen ducks home. Stephan planned to display them in his store window but the group reluctantly agreed. The thirteenth duck disappeared early next morning and Stephan worried over the loss. Most ducks were found by noon but one remained unaccounted for.
L T Moore received a five passenger Halladay touring car from Streator. The auto is fully equipped and admired by observers. Laban has taken the agency for the car. April 5 George B Stephan announces candidacy for Town Clerk.
The Chicago and Northwestern announces eight storage tracks on a twenty acre tract at Nachusa. The project includes a round house for twenty two engines and signals a boom that could bring many new families and a growing town of hundreds.
Amboy will pave its business district with brick this summer at an estimated cost of $12,000. Only one objector to the paving remains, reportedly satisfied. The project should benefit residents and especially local merchants, and Amboy earns commendation for advancement.
