Fatal collision east of Rochelle leaves fireman dead

A rear end crash about three o clock Thursday morning one mile east of Rochelle between freight trains 117 and 1388 killed fireman J. H. Reynolds of Chicago. Injured brakeman E. S. Sherman and engineer H. Lockman, traffic delayed for hours as wreckage included ten merchandise cars and a damaged piano. Coroner's jury did not assign blame. An Italian worker John Salvatore was injured during wreck cleanup.

Cleverstone and Orner Wed at Drummond Home

A marriage occurred Sunday evening March 6 at five o clock at the home of Mr and Mrs John Drummond uniting George L Cleverstone and Addassa Orner. A two course supper followed served by Mrs Drummond. About twenty members of Ashton Chapter No 575 Order of Eastern Star will attend a school of instruction in Rockford until tomorrow.

Laird to Close M W A Entertainment Series at Opera House

George R. Laird will present the final lecture of the M W A Entertainment course on March 17 1910 at the Opera House. He will discuss Will Uncle Sam Make Good in a humorous patriotic style not political. Tickets go on sale Wednesday morning at the Gazette Book Store, 35 cents.

O G H O O L Fund Distributed To Lee County Townships

County Superintendent I F Edwards allocated the distributable school fund to Lee County township treasurers. The fund, sourced from the county and circuit courts the state auditor and other balances, totaled after allocations 52 cents per person for 11 440 residents under age 21.

Chicago Glee Club Greeted with Fine Program and Encores

The Chicago Glee Club packed the house on Saturday night with a program praised for its standard. The quartet opened with Comrades to Arms and Water Lilies, a humorous Lazy Land, plus a new trombone quartet feature. C H Dixon impersonating The Hoosier drew special applause with Ri ley verses The Old Swimmin Hole and The Discontented Farmer.

Elevations in Illinois Highlight Charles Mound Peak

A state health board report lists Illinois elevations with Charles Mound in Jo Daviess County at 1257 feet as the highest and Cairo in Alexander County at 268 feet as the lowest. It also cites city by city figures from Cairo to Warren including Barrington and Stockton. In Dixon on Monday afternoon, Fred Reinhart and Minnie Kries wed in a ceremony officiated by Judge Robert H. Scott, with a homeward reception and plans to live with the groom's father in Dixon.

Census Day Rules For Population Counts On April Fifteen

The Forreston Journal explains Census Day as April 15 and instructs enumerators to count all individuals living on that date. Only references to that day are used. deaths after April 15 are counted if occurred before enumeration, births after April 16 are excluded, and marital status on April 15 determines reporting. Abode on April 15 governs residence even if moved afterward.

Ten members of Ashton Lodge No. 977 I O O F attended a Dixon lodge meeting Monday evening and observed the first degree work. An excellent banquet was served in the dining room to honor the guests.

Election Officials Named for Upcoming City Election

At the regular meeting last Monday evening little business arose aside from routine items. The city election set for April 19th had its judges and clerks appointed. Judges are J. A. Roesler L. T. Moore and A. W. Oesterheld. Clerks are H. O. Moore S. T. Zeller Jr. and Fred Richardson.

The Queen Esther circle hosted by Misses Laala and Laila Quick with 23 young ladies. They solved 15 green conundrums and matched shamrock shades and drew the land of Eriu. Lena Bode won a bonbon box Irish pota to prize. A puzzle shamrock and green lunch followed.
