Ashton seventh annual chautauqua ends with crowd praise but faces a probable end due to a $35 local expense deficit and insufficient pledges for next year. Platform manager Elliott James failed to secure a renewal contract. 31 stickers pledged, not enough for commitment. Highlights included Polly of the Circus, Omar Wilson quartet, Theodore Knox, Philippine musicians, Wonders of Electricity talk, Junior Superintendent events, and a Saturday pageant.

Work began to replace 270 million standard silver dollars taken from the treasury during the war to sell to Great Britain. Since March about 20 million silver dollars have been coined, with matching amounts of silver certificates and federal reserve and treasury notes issued.
