Ashton High School graduates big crowd at opera house
The eighteenth annual Ashton High School commencement saw six young ladies and three young men receive diplomas. Ten hours before the start, every seat at the opera house was sold, with three to four hundred unable to gain admission amid pleasant weather and a largely attended program featuring speeches by Eva Arnould Clara Krug Glenn C. Rosecrans Lex Hartzell Amanda M. Vaupel Nellie Zeller and Helen Hamilton.

A Lee County Sunday School Convention at Franklin Grove drew an unusually large attendance with a tight program and strong leadership by Franklin Grove Mayor A. W. Rosecrans. The event opened with songs and prayers and included Bible study, normal work talks, and a keynote address by State Worker A. T. Arnold.

Harris and Winn Attack Political Machines at Miller School
Attorneys Arthur G. Harris and William H. Winn spoke at the Miller school house about Political Machines and their movements. The crowd filled the new school house as voters from around Lee County listened an hour and a half with hearty applause and a long after-visit. A birthday party for Robert Guy was noted, along with celebrations for Adam Faber and Henry Reitz. Also advertised was a strictly first class excursion to Lake Geneva on Tuesday, June 26, leaving various towns at morning times and returning in the evening.

Mr and Mrs John Kersten celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with relatives at their town home. A program featured a wedding march by Mrs G A Hamel, eight young grandchildren as flower children, a short address by Rev J H Johnson, songs by the family, and gifts including a gold fretted vane, gold eel, and a gold watch and chain. All children attended except Elizabeth Kersten Gross who had passed on.
