Lee County Pioneer Dies After Long Life Abroad
Luisa Frederica Anthes 78, mother of Reiss and J. Wy, died Monday in Beatrice Nebraska. She was born in Glemm Prussia and came to America landing in New York in 1846. After marriage to John Casper Anthes she lived in Illinois Iowa Wisconsin and Nebraska before moving to Sutton and Lee Center. Her survivors include Joan F David H W and Samuel W Athes and several daughters. Interment occurred at Sutton with relatives from the area attending.

Social event drew large Metho dist Choir parish gathering

A musical program featured the Ashton Kitchen Symphony Orchestra in humorous costumes. The 15 members used kitchen utensils as instruments and the receipts totaled $39.75.

Sterling Jerome Wheeler an 83 year old former Ashton resident and veteran of the Seventy fourth Illinois infantry was found dead Monday near Red Cloud Nebraska after wandering from his Balden home He left New Milford in 1885 en route west and was later buried at Plainview cemetery His wife Miriam Clothier and daughter Mrs C E Hicks survive him The Bladen Enterprise reports he died from exposure and possible heart failure after walking 17 miles south of town then presumed to have taken a train for the western part of the state
