Hodges of Tallahassee delivered an i nspirational talk under maple trees, praising national unity, patriotism, and wartime resolve while reflecting on Civil War scars and the flag’s enduring symbolism.

Mrs M J Taggart Dies After Long Illness at 78
Mary Jane Keyes Taggart, longtime Ashton resident, died July 9 1917 at home after a year-long pneumonia illness. Born January 14 1839 in Somerset Ohio she moved with her husband William H Taggart to Ashton in 1872 where she joined the Presbyterian church and served as a nurse. Survived by daughter Mrs E J Williams and niece Miss Grace Pearl Franklin Grove. Interment in Ashton Cemetery.
