The Famous Rock River Assembly at Dixon Illinois runs from July 29 to August 13 with William J. Bryan opening the program. Lafayette Band concert draws hundreds to town square
A Lafayette band concert drew several hundred residents to town, with selections praised as appropriate and greatly pleasing the large crowd. Earlier, a high school football game in wet weather ended 15 to 7 in favor of the home team, while a separate town match saw the Married Men's team lose 7 to 4 to the High School.

Hotel Changes Hands In Rock Falls Lease Weath
Papers are being drawn up to lease the Commercial Hotel to Warren Sanders after Mr. Chas Lotz gives up management. Lotz will visit Rock Falls relatives then return to Charleston Indiana. An excursion to Lake Geneva Wednesday July 12 asks $1.50 roundtrip with a 7:53 a.m. Ashton departure and 11:10 a.m. Geneva arrival. Return train departs Geneva at 5:50 p.m.

Ashton High School routed Flagg 18 to 8 in a Sunday game. Scoring details show Nelson and Krug leading for Ashton with multiple runs, while Brag Co and others contributed for Flagg. The box social at Union school, taught by Miss Pearle Knapp, netted about $16.00.

Murder in Miami as Charles Davis and daughter slain
MIAMI Florida June 27 Charles E Davis and his daughter Elsie were found murdered in bed four miles west of the city. Davis was shot in the neck and strangled the girl shot in the chest. A posse is scouring the countryside amid reports the crime was done by negroes. The incident follows a Chicago Journal clipping from the era and notes a separate Illinois school certificate rule change for teachers after July 1. Ervin and Ellen Yenrich visited Barrington and Chicago over the Fourth.
