Hotel Boarder Jailed After Disturbance in Ashton
John W. Gilbert, a New Hampshire Hotel boarder, was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Wiener on a warrant charging disturbing the peace and vile language. He faced Judge Blocher, paid a $25 fine plus costs, and was sentenced to county jail when unable to pay. A subsequent warrant exists but no action will occur if he stays away from Ashton.

Illinois Passes Strict Law Prohibiting Cigarettes
Illinois enacts wide ranging measures banning cigarette sales to minors and restricting smoking in public places. The act imposes fines up to 100 dollars, 30 day jail terms, and sets penalties for furnishing cigarettes to minors and repeat offenses.

Remains of Samuel Gipe Brought for Burial
The remains arrived yesterday morning from Canada for burial. He had lived in Rochelle and Sterling earlier and sold his farm southeast of town eighteen years ago to Wm. Messer. He was past seventy years old. Read the Ashton Gasette.

City Council Approves Gas and Sidewalk Petitions and Partial Bond Payment
The Monday session approved gas and sidewalk petitions from S T Zeller Mrs O P Canfield Mrs E B Arnould and Robert Knapp. A fire engine committee was formed to inspect equipment. Unpaid gas bonds due June 25 1905 were discussed and a plan to pay 800 this year and 700 next year was approved to avoid litigation.
