New Firms Take Over Local Shops and Open Prospects

E J Randall sells his grocery to W B McCrea in the Masonic block. Hardware department sold to M N Glenn and A M Moore, owners with long ties to the business. Rosecrans & Co. transfers after eighteen years. Moore and Glenn promise solid stock and a bright future as they assume duties Monday morning.

Local business sale and ownership change in Ashton

After twelve years at the stand the firm begins invoicing Monday as McCrea takes possession. he plans to move to town from the farm, selling the property January 2. Randall has not decided if he will stay in Ashton. An entertainment feature unrelated to the sale, the Pictorial Story of Hiawatha, drew a large audience at Schuchart’s Opera House Friday evening with stereopticon views and Ojibway drama set around Lake Superior.

Death of Frank Killmer Seeks Comfort in Faith

Frank Killmer son of John J and Martha Killmer was born April 21 1886 at Bradford Lee county and died January 21 1906 at age 19 years 9 months from acute cerebral meningitis. He was converted January 29 1899 in Bradford under Rev I Suhr and united with United Evangelical. He was a modest home boy active in church life and was to lead the Young People meeting the day he died. Funeral attended by about 500 at Ashton Cemetery with German and English sermons by Rev Wm Schuster and Rev J G Fidder. Interment in Ashton Cemetery.

Miss Lydia E. Long of Amboy and Arthr J. Brown of this place wed at a quiet noon ceremony Wednesday at 5254 Indiana Avenue Chicago. Bride daughter of Mrs. Estella Long and niece of States Attorney C. H. Wooster. groom formerly in Dixon, now night operator on the Northwestern Road at De Kalb. They will reside in DeKalb after February 1.

Examination for West Point in Freeport Tuesday

The West Point entrance examination for the thirteenth district will be held next Tuesday in Freeport. Harvey Sindlinger of Lee County has signified his intention to take the test. He will compete with applicants from Whiteside Ogle Carroll Jo Daviess Stephenson and Lee Counties for the appointment. The note also mentions the U S coffee consumption reaching a billion pounds last year and no apparent nerve impact.

Cut Off Plan to Streamline Northwestern Rail Service

The Chicago and Northwestern Railway plans a cut off from Nachusa to Nelson to bypass Dixon hill. The project will shift most tonnage trains from Clinton to Nelson and then to Chicago, while passenger trains stay on the existing route. Work will begin when weather allows, with gravel beds prepared along the Rock River to support a higher roadbed to Nelson bridge.
