Ashton Township Reaches Red Cross Drive Quota Quickly
The Blizzard did not deter Ashton township as it surpassed its 450 member goal for the Red Cross campaign, part of Lee County's effort to recruit 10,000 members. Myrtle Dade Camp 6061 Roya Neighbors of America and Ashton Camp 48 Modern Woodmen of America held a joint installation at Woodman hall on Tuesday evening with a large turnout. Royal Neighbors officers installed included Mrs. Jennie Tuck as installing officer and Mrs. Ida Van Ness as installing Marshal. others named include Mrs. Lena Cline Mrs. Elizabeth Meister and Dr. H A Bremmer. Modern Woodmen officers chosen for 1918 were Mrs. Myrtle Lesslie Adam Faber and Harry G Cluts with a full slate of roles. The ceremony drew hearty applause from the audience for its careful execution.

Patriotic Meetings Draw Large Crowds in Lee County

Worst Blizzard Hits North Western Region With Snowbound Roads
A historic blizzard dumped about 15 inches of snow across the area as North Western trains faced delays and a rotary snow plow cleared tracks. Roads were blocked by drifts, farm travel moved through fields, and temperatures plunged from 22 above to nine below zero by Tuesday morning.
