Mrs Marilla J King Bassler an early Ashton resident died at her home aged 72 years 3 months and 2 days. Born October 2 1834 in Orange New Hampshire she came to Illinois in 1854 and to Ashton in 1854. Funeral was held Sunday at the Presbyterian church with interment in Ashton cemetery. The obituary notes her Christian faith and family in Seattle Bozeman and Ashton.
Former Ashton minister Rev. Ernest Wray Oneal, once pastor of the Garnet Street M E Church, rides a wild lecture circuit. After paying 56 to reach a venue for a 50 lecture, he retraces steps from Sparta to Edgerton via three train changes, arriving late as telegrams failed to keep Madison connection.
Miss Alice Tuck elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Chas Tuck died at her home about three o clock yesterday morning from a third stroke of paralysis. She had retired in health and mother Rick was awakened to find her distressed. she died shortly after. Funeral arrangements were not yet set. The village extends sympathy. The issue notes Gov Deneen's message, split across pages due to length, with a plan to continue in the next issue.
Wiener led a thirty person excursion to Dixon to see the new courthouse. A 23 man jury tested their knowledge of Ashton social affairs during the strictly invited event. Fire Company Meeting set for Tuesday at 7 30 p m at city hall with all members urged to attend.

The Ashton city council met in regular session discussing license methods and privacy concerns, with a future meeting likely. Lumin Ass'n organized officers include F. D. Chadwick president and Kathryn Griffith secretary, dues set at fifty cents annually. The Young People's Alliance in Reynolds installed officers for six months. notes list presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and other posts. Rail valuations for Lee County railroads are tabulated by the state board. Presbyterian notes announce a Singing Evangelist visit February 10 to 24 with Mr. Miller’s背景 and a forthcoming temperance lesson led by Geo. Garrett.
Auction sale announced for Saturday January 12 1907 in Rochelle Illinois. Two loads of farm chucks mares and draft horses purchased in Iowa. Horses described as young sound and well broken. One load arrives January 5 1907. G W Myers promotes viewing before sale.

Six hundred birds entered the Rochelle Poultry Show last week with Ashton’s fancy raisers grabbing many top prizes. W D Quick faced 98 birds in his class and won multiple awards for Barred Rooks. Albert Chambers and Emmet Randall won several partridge and wyandotte prizes. Subscription prices rise across Illinois as paper costs push costs higher for readers and advertisers.
