13 000 Volts Through Body at Polo Tragedy
George Moore superintendent of the Oregon Power company was electrocuted at the Polo sub station on Friday afternoon while rearranging equipment. He brushed a 13 000 volt high tension line with his elbow and was instantly killed. Moore, a former Polo boy, had led the electric line project to the city and resided in Oregon with his wife and young son. Funeral services were held at his Polo home.

Northwestern to start three rock ballast gangs March 15
Leo Ryan ordered three rock ballast gangs and one steel gang to begin work on March 15 at DeKalb Rochelle and Round Grove as part of a push to lay more ballast this year. Sixty miles of steel will be laid replacing ninety pound steel, with work extending westward to complete unfinished ballast sections.

The Ogle county spelling contest held in Rochelle Saturday afternoon ended with Ogle county narrowly defeating Lee county by 0.14 percent. Of 104 pupils entered, 34 Ogle papers and 38 Lee papers were perfect. Ogle average 99.58 percent, Lee 99.44. County Superintendent W W Coultns of De Kalb oversaw the event.

Rural parcels post gain in Congress with 11 pound cap
Advocates scored a partial win as Congress included a rural parcels post provision in the next fiscal year postal appropriation bill. It allows postmasters to accept and deliver non mail items up to eleven pounds on rural routes at set rates starting at one cent for two ounces, with increases up to 25 cents total for the heaviest parcels.

Attempted Mail Train Robbery Foiled by Engineer Hero
A bold five-man holdup attempt on fast mail train No. 9 near Bertram Iowa failed when engineer Douglass Mansfield opened the throttle and sped past the attackers. The engineer was wounded in the arm as robbers fired. the crew escaped into Cedar Rapids with the train. A special team hunted the band with no trace found. Winters Worst Storm Monday Over Rural Carries
A historic blizzard raged across the county for about sixteen hours starting Sunday midnight. Snow drifts reached five feet on Main Street and rural mail delivery halted. Westbound trains ran late while eastbound service suffered up to ten hours delays. The storm ended with temperatures rising to two above zero Tuesday morning and left substantial snow and drifting wind in its wake. Attorney George C. Dixon sold two farms of Elizabeth J.
