Postmaster Burleson backs autos for rural mail routes

The Postmaster General recommends replacing horses with automobiles on rural routes and lengthening routes to fifty miles. The House committee included this in a bill to pay rural carriers $1,800 yearly for fifty mile routes, up from $1,200, with $600 for cheap automobile purchase and maintenance.

Pioneer Drummond Answers Final Summons in Lafayette Township

Andrew Jackson Drummond, longtime Lafayette township resident and civic leader, died Tuesday at 92. Born October 20, 1821 in Westmoreland PA, he moved to Ohio with his family and settled in Lafayette grove in 1838. He served as justice of the peace, assessor, supervisor, and school director, and spent his final years with his son Benton and daughter Mrs. Hogan. He supported Democratic ideals and helped shape local citizenship. The funeral was held at his daughter’s home with Rev. Fremont McCague officiating.
