Notice to Farmers Enlist in Navy for Harvest Furlough
All men 18 to 35 may enlist in the Navy and receive 15 30 45 or 60 days furlough to harvest crops. Those registered must obtain release from Local Board, carry signed age certificates, and report to a Navy Recruiting Station. After examination they go to Peoria at government expense and sworn in with furloughs to return home. Mrs August Butler and Miss Luella Butler visited Dixon Tuesday.

Wesley Gilbert Injured in Farm Accident at Home
Wesley Gilbert suffered a serious accident at his country home north west of Ashton last Friday. A belt from his six horsepower gasoline engine struck him on the right temple, rendering him unconscious for three days. He was carried to the house and regained rationality on Monday morning. He sustained bruises on his back and arm but is expected to recover.
