In a Tuesday address to the Anglican Synod, Bishop Juling denounces Socialism and exhorts Christians to pursue Christian Socialism as a path to justice without severing faith. He warns that unchecked socialism could become a reign of terror, urging the wealthy and labor alike to adopt humble service.
The Christchurch Diocesan Synod debated the relation between the New Zealand Church and the Church at Home. Bishop Julius urged parliamentary approval to amend fundamental provisions of the province's constitution to allow greater liturgical variety and freedom from provincial prohibitions.

Gore on October 21 notes a brick bakehouse owned by Mr J Duncan and occupied by Cannon and Clark gutted by fire this morning with stock and fittings lost and no insurance on either property.
A nautical enquiry at Auckland into the grounding of the Kapanui fifteen miles off course from Auckland to Whangarei found the captain drowsy on watch. The court suspended his certificate for two years and ordered costs. It urged reliable clocks and properly adjusted compasses for convoys.

Mr M J Timothy the dairy inspector reported to the Tungamah Shire Council on October 5 that by September 30 there were 250 registered cow-keepers with 1500 milch cows and 1008 cows not in calf. The year saw 2800 milch cows and 6000 head of young cattle die from drought effects. Comparisons with 1906 and 1907 show a sharp industry decline with 800 cow-keepers and far fewer milch cows in 1907.
