A London dated cable from March 7 notes firm New Zealand mutton with improving forward demand. Bradford tops show varied prices across crossbreds and merinos while the market overall downgrades for coarse tops. Norton Hall appeared at the Lyttelton Police Court on March 9 charged with attempting to murder Alexander James Muir on March 7 and with resisting arrest by firing at Constable Moriarty. Hall was remanded to March 16. The wounded man’s condition remains guarded with little sign of improvement.
Reports from Blackball say the coal strike remains at a standstill while the Arbitration Court sits. Many miners express fatigue with the dispute and expect a return to work once the court's decision is delivered.
