Market report shows rising prices for wheat and oats amid limited supply. Prime Tuscan and milling wheats sell at 4s 2d plus, oats scarce, Danish oats 8s, chaff demand strong with only small quantities available. Traders reluctant to stock due to import and flour fears, but coastal orders filled from the South.
The clearing sale at Higin yesterday on account of Mr Joseph Chork was successful with large attendance. Prices include implements such as Avery weighing machine £2 15s and drill £7 10s. draught horses bay mare aged with foal £39, bay mare £40, black filly £52. cattle calves 9s 6d, yearlings £1 2s 6d to £2, bull £2 5s, dairy cows £3 to £9 5s. pigs two sold for £2 5s.
Wheat prices advanced in Timaru with good milling wheat quoted from 42s to 46s 2d on tracks at country stations. Seconds up to 8s 6d. Oats remain subdued with Danish at 2s 6d and Duns and Gartons at 5s 1d. Barley demand collapsed and potato inquiries failed to meet £4 10s to £5 per ton on trucks.

Captain Holmes of the Shaw-Savill steamer Karamea delivered 31 lobsters from Plymouth hatcheries to Dunedin for the Otago acclimatisation society. Only three died on the voyage as the lobsters were kept in refrigerated tanks at about 68 degrees. They were sent to the Portobello hatcheries.
