Massey Speech Urges Freehold Land Policy at Taumarunui

In Auckland the opposition leader Mr W F Massey denounced the Crown Suits Act as barbarous. Two Lads Charged With Breakings and Theft in Dunedin

At City Police Court in Dunedin on June 27, Joseph Sutherland and Edward Wood, both 15, faced five charges of breaking and entering and theft. They allegedly stole boots, shoes, tobacco, pipes, cigars, cigarettes, shawls, and ties from warehouses and sold most items to Corley, a second hand dealer and Sutherland’s brother in law. Corley was charged with receiving stolen goods. The boys pleaded guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Corley to stand trial after denying guilt.

Mass meeting of New Zealand shearers endorses pound rate

In Timaru a large gathering of about sixty shearers backed the one pound rate for inshore and backcountry work. They supported the federation's stance, agreed not to shear for less, and planned arbitration if unresolved.
