Australians and British leaders discuss peaceful world aims

At a London civic reception the Australian policy aims to foster global peace through cooperation with the Motherland and Dominions. Mr Fisher spoke of developing peaceful arts in wealth production and fairer wealth distribution, with Mr Murray urging citizen soldiers training and Mr Wilson also present.

Government confiscates church securities and lands in Lisbon

Reports from Lisbon state the Government is confiscating five million pounds of church held securities mainly legacies, along with lands and other property not yet valued. Other dispatches note hostilities against French missionaries in Santa Cruz, measles outbreak in Pago Pago, extreme cold in Melbourne, a court fine for Attorney General Hughes, and sugar cane workers striking in Ayr with a grounding steamer and a wall collapse injuring several men.

Fire breaks out on Haupiri bound for Gisborne

An overnight fire damaged the No 2 hold of the Union Company's Haupiri as it sailed toward Gisborne Napier and Wellington with mail bags largely untouched. The ship was towed to Queen Street wharf and the blaze contained. The extent of cargo loss is unclear. In Nelson on June 6 a stable and coach-house fire destroyed four horses and damaged cabs. Insurance stood at £350, but losses exceeded that.

Inflation of Land Values Warned at Southland Union

At the Southland Farmers' Union annual conference President Middleton warned that cheap money and good seasons boosted land values beyond sustainable levels. He noted the risk of inflated pricing and urged careful view, citing past high values without the current markets and cautioned against assuming future gains.

Plough Reports High Acreage with Petrol Engine

A petrol driven plough is reported to turn over twenty five or more acres daily at a cost of 29 2d per acre, indicating high productivity and expense efficiency for era farming machines.
